100 days of Liberal waste is nothing to celebrate

If the Liberal Government thinks the past 100 days are worth celebrating, then Premier Rockliff has completely lost touch with Tasmanians.

This has been 100 days of waste, cuts and cover-ups.
In the past 100 days, Premier Rockliff has been censured, lost two Ministers, had almost $1 million in taxpayer-funded legal fees exposed, admitted he “dropped the ball” on Supreme Court proceedings involving his own Ministers, and refused to answer basic questions of accountability.
He's overseen an attempted cover-up of TasRacing’s breach of caretaker conventions, dumped the Liberals’ signature TasInsure election commitment, been caught lying to a cancer patient, and continued to bungle the Spirits replacement project so badly that the total waste, blowouts and bailouts bill is now costing taxpayers more than $1 billion.
And within those same 100 days, Treasurer Abetz has delivered a Budget that asks Tasmanians to pay for Liberal waste with nearly $1.5 billion in cuts to the services and programs they rely on.
That means cuts of $702 million from health, $228 million from education, $67 million from Justice and $72 million from police, fire and emergency services.
This is nothing to celebrate. Tasmanians are disappointed, and they have every right to be.
The next 100 days need to be very different.
Premier Rockliff and Treasurer Abetz need to stop the spin, stop the waste, stop the cuts and start being honest with Tasmanians. They need to focus on the basics: fixing health, backing schools, supporting jobs, protecting essential services and restoring integrity to government.
Tasmanians deserve better than another glossy document from a Government whose answer to 13 years of Liberal waste is putting Eric Abetz in charge of cutting jobs and making Tasmanians pay the price.
