100 days of Risdon Prison kitchen closure
It’s been 100 days since the brand-new Risdon Prison kitchen closed, and serious questions remain about the cost, the delays and who is responsible.
Back in July, Deputy Premier Guy Barnett said repairs would take three to four weeks. Today, the $20 million kitchen has been closed longer than it was ever open, and more than 300,000 meals have been brought in at a cost to taxpayers in the millions.
What should have been a straightforward repair has turned into a costly, months-long saga.
The Government says the kitchen will reopen this week. They owe Tasmanians an update.
We still do not know:
- Who signed off on this mess in the first place?
- How much has been spent on emergency catering contracts?
- Will the contractor reimburse the catering costs?
- Why did the rectification work blow out from 3 weeks to 3 months?
- And what happened to Barnett’s promised independent review?
The Liberals have made a meal of this mess.
The Liberals owe Tasmanians an explanation on how a brand-new $20 million facility could fail so spectacularly.
