A Fresh Start for health: Healthcare and medicines when you need them, where you need them

16 July 2025

A Dean Winter Labor Government will make it easier for Tasmanians to access the healthcare and medicines they need — when and where they need them.

We’ve already announced our policy to deliver 10, 100% free TassieDoc GP clinics across the state, and today I’m delighted to reveal that the final clinic will be located in Hobart.

But free doctor’s clinics are just one piece of the puzzle.

Pharmacists are highly trained health professionals and they play a vital role, alongside GPs and other health professionals, in reducing pressure on Tasmania’s over-burdened health system.

To make their impact even greater, a Dean Winter Labor Government will expand the role of local pharmacies to ensure access to medicines is faster and easier for Tasmanians.

This includes:

·         Offering after hours incentives – so local pharmacies can stay open for longer

·         Expanding pharmacists’ scope of practice

·         Maintaining current pharmacy ownership rules

·         Increasing access to vaccinations and contraception

·         Reforming interstate prescription regulations

Labor will also introduce a new meningococcal B vaccine program for all infants and teenagers — because protecting children and families is a top priority.

These reforms complement Labor’s TassieDoc clinics, ensuring Tasmanians have greater access to essential healthcare and medication – especially during evenings and weekends.

After 11 years of the Liberals, Tasmanians deserve a health system that works — only Labor will deliver the healthcare and medicines Tasmanians need, where and when they need them.

It’s time for a fresh start and the best way to see that happen is to vote Labor.
