A Dean Winter Labor Government will deliver support for Tasmania’s largest emergency food relief provider, helping ensure more Tasmanians don’t go without a meal.
Right now, one in five people are facing food insecurity in Tasmania. That's thousands of Tasmanians who don't know where their next meal is coming from – and children who are turning up to school hungry.
As part of Labor’s targeted cost-of-living plan, a Dean Winter Government will commit $1 million per year over five years to Loaves and Fishes Tasmania. Our investment will allow it to continue its essential work in supporting around 16,000 vulnerable Tasmanians each week.
Our government would also provide a $500,000 capital contribution to develop Loaves and Fishes kitchen facilities in Devonport.
This will see the organisation's vital school lunch program be expanded into 15 additional local schools, making sure more Tasmanian children have access to a good meal and are ready to learn.
When people can’t access nutritious food, the pressure doesn’t stop at the kitchen table – it flows through to hospitals, schools and community services.
After 11 years of Liberal Government, emergency food providers are under increasing pressure to meet the rising needs of Tasmanians doing it tough.
A Fresh Start under Labor means supporting the organisations delivering real, practical help on the ground – helping Tasmanians not just to get by but get ahead.
