It’s now been over a week since the sale of Liberty Bell Bay fell over after the Liberals shut down the work being done to reach a workable power deal with the prospective buyer.

Despite energy being absolutely critical to the outcome, and despite a deal being within reach only two weeks ago, Tasmania’s Energy Minister has been nowhere to be seen.

In fact, Minister Duigan doesn’t seem to have made any official public comment about Liberty Bell Bay since he shared a few empty platitudes on social media in early June.

Has the Energy Minister gone to ground because he is embarrassed by his Government’s failure to save 200 jobs in his own electorate, when a deal was in reach?

Minister Duigan’s inability to influence the outcome at Liberty Bell Bay, or even speak about it, doesn’t bode well for Bell Bay Aluminium.  They also need to negotiate a workable power deal with the Government.

Tasmania cannot afford an Energy Minister who can’t control Hydro, can’t negotiate with major industry and can’t protect jobs.

Minister Duigan needs to come out of hiding and explain how Tasmanians can trust that Bell Bay Aluminium won’t go the same way as its neighbour Liberty Bell Bay.Bell Bay crumbling, Energy Minister still missing
