Labor stands for safe, secure and well paid jobs and I congratulate AMWU and CEPU members on their success after a valiant campaign for pay parity with mainland workers at Saputo.

I want to a see a Tasmania where people aren’t tempted to leave the state to chase higher wages for a job they could be doing here. At the moment we are losing far too many young Tasmanians to the mainland.

The Saputo workers stood up on behalf of all Tasmanian workers to prove that we aren’t worth less.

They sacrificed a lot by going on strike for 20 weeks and they won – which is a proud win for them, and a proud win for Tasmania.
