Council stands up for Queenstown Service Tasmania

The West Coast Council has formally joined the growing chorus of opposition to the Tasmanian Government’s decision to slash opening hours at the Queenstown Service Tasmania centre.

Eric Abetz and Premier Rockliff are cutting 16.5 hours a week from the centre, reducing opening hours from 32.5 to just 16 hours a week.  

For a Government that claims to support regional Tasmania, cutting access to essential services in one of the state most remote regions is difficult to justify.

People in Queenstown and surrounding West Coast communities deserve equal opportunity to access essential government services locally.

For people living in regional and rural parts of the state, Service Tasmania is the front door to government — providing access to licences, registrations, payments, permits, information and a range of essential services.

The message this sends to regional Tasmania is deeply concerning.

Regional Tasmanians are being strong-armed into reduced access to vital services, so Premier Rockliff and Eric Abetz can pay for 13 years of Liberal waste.
