After previously supporting the Liberals’ proposed legislation that planned to freeze UTAS’ Sandy Bay assets and block one of the state’s biggest housing projects, the Greens need to outline whether they still oppose the construction of 2,000 new homes.

Building 2,000 new homes at Sandy Bay would represent one of the biggest housing projects in Tasmania.

While the Greens’ position remains unclear, it looks like they want to see unused land, and buildings that have long been vacated, remain vacant indefinitely.

It doesn’t make any sense for the Greens to oppose this, especially in the middle of a housing crisis.

Vica Bayley has previously said that The Greens believe that Tasmania’s only university must be “nation-leading in its academic outcomes, educational experience for students and accountability to the state.”

Has anybody told Mr Bayley that this project is key to unlocking a state-of-the-art $500 million science and technology facility? It’s a win, win for Tasmania.

Labor supports safe, secure, well-paid jobs, Labor supports building more houses and Labor supports investing in education to help deliver the economic future Tasmania deserves.
