New data has confirmed Tasmania’s economy is continuing to flatline under the mismanagement of the minority Rockliff Liberal government.

Latest figures from the ABS show that Tasmania’s state final demand had the second lowest growth rate in the nation at 0.4 per cent, well below the national average of 0.7 per cent and Tasmania’s worst September quarter in eight years.

Tasmania also ranked second worst in both financial consumption expenditure measures.

Today’s data follows the TCCI’s survey of business expectations which revealed a staggering 55 per cent of Tasmanian businesses anticipate the Tasmanian economy to worsen over the next 12 months, compared to 47 per cent for the national economy. Just 19 per cent thought the economy would improve.

With spiralling debt and deficit and over 6,000 jobs lost in Tasmania since the Premier lost control of the parliament, it’s little wonder.

The TCCI said the business community would find it hard to trust the Liberals again after the shambles that is the Spirits fiasco, and with more concerning economic data emerging it’s hard to disagree with them.
