Government playing politics with the Budget

16 June 2026

Ella Haddad MP

Shadow Minister for Integrity

16 June 2026

Government playing politics with the Budget

The Liberal Government has reneged on an agreement struck with the Parliament to sit until 9pm tonight, raising concerns it is shaping to use passing the Budget as a shield for accountability regarding its disgraceful conduct.

The agreement was reached to make up for the time lost by members attending the funeral of Father Michael Tate, so that the important matter of passing the Budget could be addressed.

Given this action, Labor is concerned that the Government might be shaping to use the Budget as a shield to protect itself from further scrutiny and accountability relating to the Premier’s behaviour over the past six months.

Labor is ready and willing to sit as long as it takes to make sure the Budget is passed, and that the Premier’s behaviour is afforded the Parliamentary scrutiny it so clearly deserves.
