Hobart inflation highest in the nation - so when will TasInsure make groceries cheaper?

By Dean Winter MP Shadow Treasurer

26 August 2026

Premier Rockliff and Eric Abetz went to the election promising TasInsure would make groceries cheaper and slash $250 a year from household insurance bills.

New inflation figures show Hobart has the highest inflation of any capital city in Australia.

Tasmanians are entitled to ask two simple questions:

  • When will TasInsure start reducing grocery prices?
  • And when will Tasmanians get the $250 they were promised off their insurance bills?

The Premier made these promises repeatedly during the election campaign, despite having no evidence or financial modelling to back them up.

Meanwhile, today’s ABS figures show the pressure on household budgets is getting worse.

After 13 years of the Liberals, Tasmanians are paying more for the essentials while the Government cuts jobs and services to pay for its waste.
