Housing supply urgent, cuts and confusion at Building Tasmania won’t help

With increases of Tasmanians sleeping rough, and employed people needing housing support, Anglicare’s Housing Connect Front Door Service Quarterly Snapshot paints a damning picture of Tasmania’s housing landscape after 13 years of the Liberals.

Among its recommendations, the report calls on the Government to expand housing supply to increase the rental vacancy rate.

It’s difficult to see how the Tasmanian Liberal Government’s ability to do this won’t be affected by the cuts and confusion at Building Tasmania.

The Minister responsible for the rebranded department still cannot explain what it is, how it will work, or how it is going to deliver more houses while slashing 250 jobs.

After 13 years of Liberal waste, Premier Rockliff has put Eric Abetz in charge of cutting jobs and services to pay for it, which means Tasmanians needing housing support will pay too.
