Jacqui Lambie says coalition agreement hangs on Ferguson’s demotion

20 August 2024

According to Jacqui Lambie, the Premier needs to demote Michael Ferguson to the backbench and install a competent Minister to his portfolios - otherwise she will rip up the Jacqui Lambie Network’s agreement with the Liberals.

Senator Jacqui Lambie gave Premier Rockliff an ultimatum in a media release yesterday, saying that the agreement between her party and the Liberals still stands provided he sends Michael Ferguson to the backbench.

The agreement with Jacqui Lambie Network is the only thing keeping the Liberals in Government.

Jacqui Lambie Network MP Andrew Jenner has already called Michael Ferguson’s position untenable – now the party’s leader has staked their agreement on it.

Will Premier Rockliff appease the Jacqui Lambie Network and cut his Deputy Premier loose? Or will Tasmania get further proof that Jacqui Lambie’s bark is worse than her bite?

Shane Broad MP
Leader of Opposition Business in the House of Assembly
