Labor’s Bill to recognise Easter Sunday as a public holiday in Tasmania has passed Parliament following a third reading the Legislative Council today.

This simple, practical reform will acknowledge the Tasmanians who give up Easter Sunday with their family to go to work, and ensure they are fairly paid for their commitment to our communities.

It means from 2027, every worker in Australia will now be given the same recognition for the work they do on Easter Sunday.

It’s deeply disappointing Premier Rockliff, Eric Abetz and the Liberal Government think workers should be treated differently simply because they work in Tasmania.

The Liberals have voted against putting more money in the pockets of thousands of Tasmanian workers at a time when the cost-of-living is hitting harder than ever.

Tasmania’s weekend workforce keeps our state running, and thanks to Labor, they will finally be properly recognised if they have to give up Easter Sunday with their family to go to work.

This is a win for Tasmanian workers, and Labor will always stand up for working people.
