The Jacqui Lambie Network has broken its agreement with the Liberals, siding with the Greens on a motion to vote down the Government’s draft Coastal Policy amendment Bill.
A legal review of the Tasmanian Coastal Policy has raised serious legal questions with widespread ramifications. Luckily for the Government, Labor was on hand to save the day and ensure the Green-Lambie motion failed.
According to their Coalition agreement with the Liberals, the Lambies cannot under any circumstances support motions that bind the Government.
They also voted against a motion that would have revealed the extent of the Government’s budget cuts today, for that very reason.
In addition to showing no regard for their Coalition agreement with the Government, the Jacqui Lambie Network have illustrated their cavalier attitude towards providing stability in the Parliament.
The Lambies have now demonstrated that they are willing to break their agreement over a significant issue. Jeremy Rockliff’s leadership sent his Government into minority, and clearly the Premier will have his work cut out to keep his latest flock together.
