Liberals go to war over failed Treasurer

12 October 2024

The Liberal Party has gone to war with itself over failed Treasurer Michael Ferguson.

The Treasurer has taken to social media to attack "people who I frankly expected more of", accusing "certain individuals" with knowledge of his candidate declaration forms of leaking details of his past bankruptcy.

Meanwhile, Premier Jeremy Rockliff—who Mr Ferguson says was fully aware of his bankruptcy when he appointed him Treasurer—continues to remain completely silent on Mr Ferguson's future.

Did Jeremy Rockliff know about the bankruptcy, as Mr Ferguson claims? And given the massive failures with the new Spirits, does he support Mr Ferguson remaining in his Cabinet?

Whatever the answer, it's clear the Liberal Party is more focused on its internal battles than it is on governing Tasmania.
