Documents obtained by Labor through Right to Information have revealed the Liberal Government is spending more than $1 million on external recruitment contracts to fill fat cat government board positions. 

With a hiring freeze over most of the public sector, the recruitment of important roles such as nurses are librarians are being knocked back. Yet in the same breath, Tasmanians are being left to foot the million dollar bill for the recruitment of board members.

While the contract values add up to over $1 million, the Liberals’ priorities won’t add up in the minds of many Tasmanians who are struggling to pay the bills and keep up with the cost of living.

This is more of the same copy-paste waste we’ve come to know from this Government, which has previously been caught spending hundreds of thousands of dollars recruiting for positions that were eventually awarded to someone acting in the role, or from down the corridor. 

Premier Rockliff has put Eric Abetz in charge of cutting jobs and services to pay for 13 years of Liberal waste, but they can still find $1 million to recruit fat cat government board positions.

Instead of spending buckets of money on consultants, this Government should be focusing on protecting the government services Tasmanians rely on.
