Minister confirms sweeping health cuts in Liberal budget disaster

24 September 2024

Tasmanian Labor stands for jobs, and that’s why we’re so concerned about the health jobs set to be slashed by the Liberal minority government’s razor gang.

Under questioning in Estimates, Health Minister Guy Barnett refused to rule out redundancies to Tasmanian health workers to meet his sweeping budget cuts.

The Health Department has been singled out to find at least $600 million in cuts over the forward estimates – the largest share of any department.

We already knew that vacancy control measures are being applied across the Department of Health, and now we know that Department of Health won’t be safe from forced redundancies either.

They’ve blown the state budget, and now Tasmanian health workers are paying the price.

Tasmania’s health system is already sick enough, it can’t afford the Liberal minority government’s budget cuts.

Shadow Minister for Health
