More cuts for health
After 13 years of Liberal waste Premier Rockliff has put Eric Abetz in charge of cutting jobs and services, and health is on the chopping block.
While it’s been well established by doctors, nurses, paramedics, and healthcare workers that Tasmania’s health care system can’t cope with Eric Abetz’s cuts, some areas of health fare worse than others.
One of those areas is non-admitted, or outpatient services. These services include things like specialist appointments, X-rays, MRIs, and ultrasounds.
According to page 170 of the Health Department’s most recent Annual Report, approximately $480 million was spent on outpatient services in 2024-25.*
Yet fast forward to Eric Abetz’s 2026-27 Budget, the Government is only planning to spend a little over $385 million – that’s $95 million less.**
Meanwhile, the outpatient waitlist continues to explode under the Liberals. When they first came to power it sat at just over 25,000. Now, over 75,000 Tasmanians are stuck on it, and that number continues to climb.
Minister Archer has shown she’ll stop at no end in her efforts to mislead Tasmanians, but the numbers don’t lie.
