More evidence to increase Spirit day sailings

25 November 2024

More evidence has come to light showing why the Liberals can’t be trusted to manage the Spirits of Tasmania.

Despite tourism operators crying out for assistance to make up for the new Spirits being years late, it turns out there are less day sailings scheduled for this coming year compared to the last.

After questions from Labor, the government was forced to admit that there are just 170 day sailings scheduled for 2024/25 compared with 197 over 2023/24.

Labor has proposed a common-sense solution to repair some of the economic damage caused by the Liberals’ mismanagement of the Spirits, with our proposal to double day sailings and provide some relief to tourism operators doing it tough.

Despite this, Premier Rockliff and the Liberals continue to dig their heels and pretend everything is ok as it is.

I've been clear that Labor is changing under my leadership - which is why we're not just going to criticise the government, but also put forward ideas to help create jobs and make Tasmania the best place to grow up, work and retire.

We encourage Premier Rockliff to immediately adopt our proposals, support Tasmania's tourism industry, and start getting the Spirits back on course.
