Tasmania’s budget is in the worst shape it’s ever been and it’s no surprise as the Liberal government continues its wasteful spending spree.

Analysis of the Treasurer’s Annual Financial Report reveals the minority Liberal government blew the budget for consultants over the past year by a shocking $40 million.

Not content with that, the Liberals overspent on government advertising (aka self-promotion) by $9 million.

The wasteful spending spree didn’t stop there, with a $13 million blowout on government travel.

To top things off, the Liberals even blew the budget by $111 million for the Treasurer’s Reserve – which ironically is the budget set aside for budget blowouts.

Premier Rockliff’s Liberals have completely trashed the budget, and it’s time new Treasurer Guy Barnett cut up the credit card.

Labor wants Tasmania’s budget to start moving in the right direction.

That’s why we’ve already put forward a 10-point plan to get the state’s finances back on track, and why we’ll continue to hold the Liberals to account for their wasteful spending.
