Ogilvie doubles down on freezing UTAS’ assets, will the Greens?

07 November 2024

Madeleine Ogilvie has emphatically confirmed that the Liberal minority government will push ahead with their proposed legislation to freeze the University of Tasmania’s assets.

Will the Greens continue to support this anti-development legislation?

Labor has been clear about why we oppose the Liberal minority government’s disastrous bill - we support better education facilities and more housing. The Liberal minority government’s bill will block the construction of 2,000 new homes and funding for a $500 million STEM facility.

Why on earth are the Greens and the Liberals teaming up to block nearly 2,000 homes from being built on the vacant, unused land above Churchill Avenue?

Labor supports safe, secure, well-paid jobs, Labor supports building more houses and Labor supports investing in education to help deliver the economic future Tasmania deserves.

The Greens need to declare why they support Premier Rockliff’s proposed legislation to freeze UTAS’ assets and what they have against building more houses and creating jobs.
