Today’s statement by the ANMF has put more pressure on the Liberal-Lambie government to outline the true extent of their devasting health cuts.
Yesterday, an RTI revealed more than 700 jobs are unfunded across the health system, with these jobs at risk of being cut under the government’s vacancy control measures.
Today, the ANMF has stated that there are nearly 1,000 vacant nursing and midwifery positions across the state, which clearly aren’t safe from the axe either.
“Worse still, a vacancy control committee has now been established to reduce positions even further with nearly 1000 vacant nursing and midwifery positions across the State,” the ANMF said.
“Make no mistake, this will be a disaster for the nursing and midwifery profession, the health system and the Tasmanian community.”
Tasmania’s health system is sick enough. The ANMF are completely right – the last thing it can afford is the Liberal-Lambie health cuts.
The Government’s focus should be on improving health services and conditions for the dedicated workers who deliver them – not cutting health workers’ jobs.
The Liberals are in this position because they have mismanaged the budget for 10 years. They owe it to Tasmanians to come clean about the extent of the mess they have created.
