Razor gang slashing 1,000 jobs

23 September 2024

Tasmanian Labor stands for jobs.

That's why we're so concerned about the 1,000 jobs set to be slashed by the Premier’s razor gang.

It has been revealed this morning that the group responsible for slashing $100 million from the government's wages budget, or 1,000 jobs, is headed by the Premier, and includes Treasurer Ferguson, Ministers Abetz, Ogilvie and Street.

Notably absent from the razor gang is Minister Barnett - despite health being singled out for the largest share of the cuts.

The Premier also confirmed a program of voluntary redundancies is being implemented across the State Service, along with vacancy control measures in the Department of Health.

There is little doubt that cutting 1,000 public sector jobs will have a serious impact on the frontline services Tasmanians rely on, as well as the broader Tasmanian economy.
