Rockliff must stand up for jobs in Bell Bay

17 April 2025

Tasmanian Labor is calling on Jeremy Rockliff to stand up to Peter Dutton and Susie Bower’s continued attack on jobs and renewable energy in Tasmania.

Yesterday, Ms Bower doubled down on Peter Dutton’s plan to cut the green hydrogen tax credits which are critical to the future of ABEL Energy’s efuels project in Bell Bay, suggesting the project needed to go ahead on its own without government support.

The Federal Opposition Leader’s reckless plan will cause the immediate cancellation of the project and cost Tasmania more than 500 ongoing new jobs, 1,500 construction jobs and $4 billion of economic benefit.

Ms Bower is the CEO of Bell Bay Advanced Manufacturing Zone. She is paid by Tasmanians to stand up for projects like ABEL.

But yesterday, Ms Bower demonstrated that she’s happy to put politics ahead of the people she is supposed to represent, which should come as a strong warning for anyone planning to vote for her on May 3.

The silence from Federal Member for Bass Bridget Archer on this matter has also been deafening.

Will the Premier do what his Federal colleagues won’t and stand up for jobs in Bell Bay?

Janie Finlay MP
Shadow Minister for Energy & Renewables
