Jeremy Rockliff has sensationally backflipped again on Marinus Link.
After promising the project for 11 years — and delivering nothing — Jeremy Rockliff is now unsure whether he supports it.
He is also claiming that if he does eventually decide to support it, he will adopt Labor's long-held policy of making the mainland pay.
This is a policy his government last year said was "a reckless decision that threatens the future of the Marinus Link and will put a knife through the heart of the Tasmanian economy."
And just a month ago the Liberals' budget included another $100 million of borrowed money for the project.
What has changed?
Jeremy Rockliff's latest backflip follows an earlier decision to cut the size of the project in half, and repeated cost blowouts.
After 11 years of promises, this massive backflip is yet another example of why the Liberals can't be trusted to deliver major projects. It's policy on the run and is exactly the sort of approach that led to the Spirits fiasco.
Labor's position has been and remains clear: we support Marinus because it will unlock new renewable energy in Tasmania, and we'll transfer our stake to mainland governments to save Tasmanians money.
