Labor welcomes today’s long overdue update about the progress of the critical safety screens for Metro drivers, but the announcement provides little comfort for workers’ futures while Premier Rockliff continues his desperate plans to privatise the service.
Labor has continued to hold the Government to account for its promise to introduce the screens, and won’t stop doing so until they are installed.
While today’s update is welcome news, with the Premier’s privatisation plans hanging over the head of Metro we remain concerned about the future of the service and its workers.
The Liberals have driven Metro into the ground over the past decade, cutting hundreds of services which has had a massive impact on Tasmanians.
Jeremy Rockliff’s plan to privatise Metro will lead to more cancelled services, higher bus fares, and jeopardise further safety measures for drivers.
