Statement regarding Jane Howlett

Labor welcomes the resignation of Jane Howlett from the Rockliff Cabinet.

According to the Ministerial Code of Conduct, Ministers must be able to withstand the closest public scrutiny.

It became abundantly clear over recent weeks and months that Ms Howlett had not.

It is disappointing that Ms Howlett has attempted to portray this as a personal, political attack.

Pursuing accountability over $300,000 worth of secret legal fees or misleading parliament was never personal.

It was about upholding Parliamentary standards when Premier Rockliff would not, and we welcome the outcome that was eventually reached.
