TasInsure: the so-called solution that already exists

TasInsure: the so-called solution that already exists

Instead of saving Tasmanians $250 a year on their insurance premiums, the Liberals’ TasInsure plan is to waste millions of dollars delivering an insurance comparison service that already exists.

While 1800 nurses, teachers and other public sector workers’ jobs are on the chopping block, Jeremy Rockliff plans to establish a new bureaucratic talk fest that will deliver nothing an insurance broker or free website does not already do.

There are at least 10 major insurance comparison platforms currently operating in Australia that provide the exact service the new TasInsure aims to deliver. These include:

  • Compare the Market
  • Canstar
  • iSelect
  • Finder
  • CHOICE
  • Compare Club
  • Compare Insurance
  • Mozo
  • RateCity
  • Find an Insurer

“This won’t cost taxpayers a cent” was what Jeremy Rockliff told Tasmanians when he announced his policy.

Instead, they’ll be paying millions for a service that they can already access for free from a state budget that is broken.
