Tasmania last on housing as Liberals cut jobs instead of building homes

29 April 2026

Meg Brown MP

Shadow Minister for Housing

Tasmania last on housing as Liberals cut jobs instead of building homes

Tasmania ranking dead last on the Housing Industry Association’s Scorecard is a damning verdict on 13 years of Liberal waste.

The Liberals have rebranded departments, shuffled responsibilities, and announced Eric Abetz is cutting another 250 jobs, but they still can’t explain how cutting jobs will build more houses.

Tasmanians deserve to know how sacking public servants, creating chaos, and making workers fear for their future is supposed to speed up approvals, unlock land, or deliver new homes.

It’s clear that Tasmania faces a structural supply problem. That requires leadership, planning reform, and building more homes.

Instead, the Liberals are doing what they always do after 13 years in office – cutting jobs and services to pay for their waste.
