Tony Abbott flies in to give Rockliff’s team advice on massive job cuts

04 July 2025

Tony Abbott's legacy as Prime Minister was deep cuts to health and education and sacking of public service workers.

Last night Abbott was welcomed to Tasmania with open arms by key Liberals in Rockliff's team, no doubt eagerly taking notes on how to implement the same pain on Tasmanians.

The facts are the Liberals plan to sack 2,500 Tasmanian workers across health and education and other key services because they've wrecked the budget.

As the Liberals prepare to cut, it should alarm every Tasmanian that someone who loathes public services as much as Mr Abbott has been in the state to give advice on making these cuts.

Abbott’s visit will also send a chill down the spine of Tasmanian women, with his controversial views only set to empower Eric Abetz, who already has a long list of dangerous opinions about women of his own.

Jeremy Rockliff’s weakening grip on his party’s leadership has already seen him dilute his progressive views to pacify conservatives, raising serious questions about what kind of principles he will abandon next.

The only way to deliver the Fresh Start Tasmania needs is to vote Labor. A vote for independents or the Greens will risk another Liberal Government with more arrogance, more cuts and more dangerous views.
