Treasury calls BS on Rockliff's TasInsure Sham

18 July 2025

reasury has confirmed what Tasmanians already knew – TasInsure is nothing but a reckless thought bubble from Jeremy Rockliff that doesn't stack up.
The policy has been unable to be costed by the department ‘due to insufficient information’.
What Treasury has confirmed is that the establishment of the new government-owned business will cost Tasmanians – with Treasury stating it will "incur additional costs", highlighting potential "adverse impacts" on MAIB's ability to pay dividends, and suggesting it is unclear whether MAIB's reserves will be "sufficient to meet both the establishment costs for the entity, as well as provide adequate assets to meet estimated liabilities as initial policies are written and premium reserves are built up over time."
This damning assessment proves once again that you can’t trust anything that Jeremy Rockliff says.
He stuffed up the Spirits and it looks increasingly likely TasInsure will be an even bigger fiasco.
It's time for a fresh start under Labor.
