Northern Tasmanians have been handed another report detailing everything going wrong in the Northern economy, but the Rockliff Government still hasn’t delivered the economic plan it promised by the end of August.
The Premier announced the Northern Economic Plan in early July and repeatedly promised it would be released by the end of August.
Instead, we’ve got a summary of the summit confirming what the community, businesses and workers have been telling the Government for years: the problem is government.
Planning delays. Slow approvals. Red tape. Poor coordination. No certainty.
After 13 years, that is an extraordinarily poor report card.
And while the Liberals have been writing reports, things have only got worse.
Liberty Bell Bay is gone. Boag’s will stop brewing in Launceston at the end of the year. The Hawks are out. The future of Bell Bay and now Josef Chromy remains uncertain.
Northern Tasmania doesn’t need another document telling us what the problems are.
We need the Premier to explain where his promised Economic Plan is, what it will actually do, when it will happen and how many jobs it will protect and create.
After 13 years of Liberal waste and incompetence, Northern Tasmania deserves better, we need action and a government that can get things done.
