Jeremy Rockliff’s leadership faces another serious test tonight, with the latest episode of the Liberals’ Franklin electorate committee saga set to unfold.
According to a leaked email from ousted chair Brendan Blomeley, despite declaring a motion of no confidence in himself as carried in a previous meeting, replacement chair Dean Young subsequently claimed it to be void because he didn’t call for a formal vote.
Will Mr Young attempt to wriggle out of another no confidence motion and survive tonight’s meeting?
Or will Jeremy Rockliff finally show some leadership and enforce the peace plan he tried to broker but has so far been unable to implement to return Mr Blomeley to the party and as chair.
If the Premier remains too weak to act, Mr Blomeley has threatened to take back his position by force through convening a rogue meeting – a move set to escalate the dispute to a whole new level of madness.
Every minute Jeremy Rockliff and his senior ministers spend on this mess is a minute they are not spending representing Tasmanians.
If the Liberals can’t manage themselves, how can they possibly manage Tasmania?
