Key Points
A Dean Winter Labor Government will tackle crime by holding offenders to account and addressing the causes of crime, to repair the damage done by the Liberals.
Everyone deserves to live in safe communities without crime and anti-social behaviour. Under the Liberals, reoffending rates are the worst in the country and victims’ voices are not being properly heard.
Labor will:
- Implement the recommendations of the Commission of Inquiry
- Close Ashley Youth Detention Centre as soon as possible
- Establish a standalone Youth Court
- Give victims a true voice on the Parole Board
- Introduce new offences to tackle hate crime
Why we need it
Labor recognises that, after 11 years of Liberal Government, reoffending rates are up and a Fresh Start is needed in our justice system.
- Victims aren’t heard on the parole board
- Youth are reoffending at higher rates and Ashley Youth Detention Centre is still in limbo
- The Commission of Inquiry’s recommendations have not been implemented
“Labor will make communities safer and our justice system better.”
