A fresh start for prevention of family and sexual violence

A fresh start for prevention of family and sexual violence Main Image

Key Points

A Dean Winter Labor Government will support victim survivors of family and sexual violence to change their vehicle registration plates at no cost.

This will protect the safety and privacy of victim survivors while reducing financial burdens.

Labor’s plan will:

  • Help victim survivors save money on the cost of changing number plates
  • Make it easier for victim survivors to change numberplates
  • Give practical help to people when they need it most

Why we need it

Victim survivors are faced with many complex, expensive challenges when escaping a violent situation.

One commonly overlooked risk is vehicle identification through number plates.

Vehicles are necessary for many victim survivors to escape a violent relationship, attend work or education, and access support services, but victim survivors live in fear that they may be identified on the road.

“Labor will help protect the safety and privacy of victim survivors.”

The details

Labor will enable victim survivors of family and sexual violence to change their vehicle registration plates at zero cost.  This is a practical measure to help victim survivors avoid perpetrators and keep their whereabouts confidential.
