A fresh start for public safety

A fresh start for public safety Main Image

After 11 years of the Liberals, Tasmanians are feeling increasingly unsafe in shopping centres and bus malls.

A Dean Winter Labor Government will do things differently and crack down on youth crime.

We will:

  1. Work with Tasmania Police to further increase patrols of known youth crime hotspots
  2. Ban the sale of knives to under 18s
  3. Develop plans for a stand-alone Youth Court to deal with young offenders faster
  4. Employ public transport safety officers, which the Liberals have failed to deliver, and give them more powers to detain offenders committing crimes or causing disturbances on buses or in bus malls
  5. Complete the installation of safety screens for Metro drivers as a top priority, which the Liberals have failed to deliver properly
  6. Introduce new offences to tackle hate crime
  7. Extend workplace safety protection laws to retail workers and bus drivers

It’s time for a Fresh Start for public safety.
