Supporting safe, secure and well-paid jobs

Labor wants Tasmania to be the best place to grow up, live, work and retire. That starts with good jobs, with good pay and good conditions. And it's underpinned by world-class education.

We want young Tasmanians to have opportunities here, and not have to go to the mainland to build great careers.

Backing Tasmania's strengths

Labor stands for jobs. We strongly support jobs in industries that have underpinned Tasmania’s economy for generations, including in mining, forestry, aquaculture and renewable energy. These industries support thousands of well-paid jobs, particularly in regional Tasmania, and will always have our full support.

More safety at work

Supporting workers is in Labor’s DNA and we believe everyone has the right to come home safe from work.

That’s why Labor has already worked across the Parliament to legislate industrial manslaughter protections, and why we will continue to fight for better protections for workers.

Supporting a strong future for our University

Labor values our University and recognises its central role in Tasmania’s economic future.

We’ve seen the great things they’ve done in Launceston and Burnie, and want to see new jobs, better education and more housing in Hobart too.

We support the University’s city move, their plans for a new $500 million science and technology centre, the construction of up to 2,000 new homes on their vacant land, and the positive impact they will have on Hobart’s CBD.

Labor has a plan for Tasmania.
